NAGA PEDESTAL SINGING BOWLS:
These bowls have two parts forged separately: the main body that is the bowl itself and the pedestal which the bowl is mounted on. The bottom of the bowl is round and needs a support for it to be able to stand upright. That’s what the pedestal is for. The Naga Pedestal Singing Bowls are bulgy in the the centre with the midpoint having a larger circumference than the rest of the body. The lip can either be plain or grooved, depending on the size of the bowl.
There isn’t much information about the age of these bowls except for the fact that they are very unique in shape and very rarely found compared to the others. Unlike other types of bowls, which requires cushions or a proper flat surface to stand them up, these Naga Pedestal singing Bowls don’t need any support. The condition in which these bowls are found shows that they were used for ceremonial or musical purposes. There’s also a possibility of them being used as offering bowls.
Naga Pedestal Singing Bowls are mainly played along the rim instead of struck with a stick. They are very responsive and are comparatively very easy to play.
MANI SINGING BOWLS:
These bowls have a very strong physical presence with their powerful voice and solid character. They have a very unique sound and are shaped in a unique conical form. They are heavy and have solid flat bottom. The lips are wide and face inwards. Their have huge bellies with circumference greater than the base. Rim is usually with the smallest circumference. They do not produce any water fountains and neither do they talk. With their unique harmonic and unsuaul sounds, they are great for putting an entertaining show. They respond really well but need a little patience to get used to.
